About Beaumont

Beaumont is a city in Leduc County within the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada. It is located at the intersection of Highway 625 and Highway 814, adjacent to the City of Edmonton and 6.0 kilometers (3.7 mi) northeast of the City of Leduc. The Nisku Industrial Park and the Edmonton International Airport are located 4.0 kilometers (2.5 mi) to the west and 8.0 kilometers (5.0 mi) to the southwest respectively. The population was 16,555 in the 2016 Census.

Recreation and tourism

Recreation and tourism play a significant role in the economy of Beaumont, as well as agriculture, oil and gas development, and employment. Beaumont is also home to the Beaumont Christian College, which offers programs for high school students through university. It is also home to Northwest Academy Elementary School, a new school designed with up to 90% of seats for special needs children. It was opened in September 2011 and was the first new school built in Leduc County in over 30 years. Beaumont is also one of the largest producers of Chisholm cattle within Alberta.

Art and Culture

Beaumont's main street is home to a collection of art galleries and restaurants as well as the Central Alberta Art Gallery. The CBT office provides information on many of the area's recreational activities and promotes local businesses, especially during the popular Streetfest event held in Beaumont every July.

Activities

The Beaumont area offers a couple of hiking trails: Cobb's Hill, located in the north of town, features an old settler cemetery; and Scona Trail located further south. Both trails offer scenic views of Edmonton International Airport and Parkland County as well as some historical sites which provide for a pleasant hike. There is also the North Tidemoor Golf Course located in Sherwood Park, which provides 18 holes of challenging golf for all levels of play. The Beaumont Aquatic Centre located near the Beaumont Christian College is a great place to learn to swim or just have fun in the water. The center has a variety of pools and a water park where children can enjoy tubing or raft rides.

Campsites

There are numerous campgrounds throughout the area, however, the main campground is Clearwater Campground and RV Resort, located right off Highway 63 inside Sherwood Park and operated by the municipal government. Clearwater has sites for tents, RVs, trailers, and buses. The campground is open year-round, although sites with electricity are not available in the winter.

Food

There are many restaurants and fast-food chain locations scattered throughout Beaumont. The restaurants within the downtown area include the Wild Garlic Grill, which offers a selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads; the Beaumont Bakery; and Jitters Coffee House.

Transportation

Beaumont has a variety of transportation options available to residents and visitors. The City of Beaumont operates a municipal transit service that provides access to Edmonton International Airport and the downtown area. The service operates year-round, except in the months when schools are in session. On weekdays, there is a bus between eight in the morning and five in the evening. There is also a Saturday bus that runs from 6 to 8 am and one at 11:00 am from Beaumont High School. There are also several options for vanpooling starting at $10 per day, available.

Beaumont is located adjacent to the Edmonton International Airport and offers a number of campgrounds, each with its own amenities.

There are four golf courses that can be accessed from Beaumont. The Golf Club of Sherwood Park is located in the southwestern corner of Beaumont and has eleven holes; Sherwood Park Golf Course is located on Highway 814 southwest of Beaumont and has nine holes; North Tidemoor Golf Club is located northeast of Beaumont on Highway 63 and has eighteen holes; and the Nisku Park Golf Course which is found northwest of Edmonton International Airport at Nisku Industrial Park.
