About Millet

Millet is a Hamlet in Cypress County, Alberta. Located south of the city of Medicine Hat and southwest of Oklahoma, Millet has a population of 2,700 and an area code 403. The town was originally developed by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) as part of a line that ran from Lethbridge to Calgary called the CCR Railroad (later known as CPR Southern). The surveyor who laid out most of the original townsite was Hector P. McIvor in 1903. He named it after his birthplace in Ontario and the name is usually said to be an anglicization of "Mirabelle". It first appeared on the railway map in 1910. Its post office opened in July 1912. It was incorporated as a village in 1914 and then as a town in 1971.

We are just a one hour drive to Rocky Mountain House and Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, an hour and a half from the Calgary International Airport and in the centre of the Canadian Badlands. The badlands inspire imagination and creativity.

It is a picturesque landscape with parallel dikes formed by ancient seas, tepee rings, dinosaur fossils and buffalo jumps.
