About El Centro

While El Centro may not be as well-known for camping as spots around Los Angeles or Bay Area RV parks, this border town, in particular, has some of the best campgrounds in California. And it’s especially popular with snowbirds and folks who RV year-round. Why? Even off-season, the weather is always pretty tolerable.

El Centro RV parks and campgrounds are situated both downtown and in the surrounding desert. The City of El Centro is right near the border with Mexico, and just south of the Salton Sea, making it a prime location for folks who are interested in exploring parts of Mexico, as well as resort towns around Palm Springs, San Diego, and Anaheim.

The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a short drive away if you need a day trip to the desert mountains. And these mountains overlook the great Salton Sea, so you should really go. To the east is the Lake Havasu area and the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge along the Arizona border. To the North is Joshua Tree National Park, one of the most popular destinations in the United States (any early U2 fans out there?). Closer to town is the North Algodones Dunes Wilderness Area, which looks like a mini version of the Sahara Desert. But the park isn’t comprised only of picturesque sand dunes, you can also stay for a day, or a week, for camping, hiking, and checking out local. Imagine the plane fare you’ll save on a flight to Africa.

Most visitors to El Centro are there to enjoy the warm weather, beautiful desert, and have easy access to natural attractions and easy access to Mexico. But this is no ghost town, either. There’s a large mall, several parks, and a few golf courses as well. So no matter what you’re looking to get into in the area, El Centro RV parks and campgrounds have something for every kind of camper.
