Provost is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located approximately 143 kilometers west of Edmonton on Highway 2, near the Provost Lake reservoir at an elevation of 604 meters. The town had 584 residents in 2011.

Provost is situated at the crossroads of the Buffalo Trail, a historic cattle trail that was used by buffalo from the eastern plains of Canada to markets in the far west. There are several historical markers along this trail that explain how the trail evolved and what it was used for. The buffalo trails were used for about 6-8 years until buffalos were exterminated.

Art and culture in Provost
Provost has a thriving culture and arts community. The town's parks are open to the public, and visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the region at Elmvale Access Area and Boggy Lake Provincial Park. Provost is also home to the St. Joseph Smith School Museum which offers a glimpse into the town’s past through its collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents from 1898 onwards. The town offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including cross-country skiing and skating on Provost's two lakes and golfing at Westview Golf Course.
Located within the Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8, Provost is a service center for the surrounding agricultural district, with two-grain elevators which were completed in 1916 and 1927 respectively. It is just south of Bighorn Highway (Highway 40) and north of Highway 24 on Highway 653.
The Big Horn County Museum is located in Provost, and has a collection of historical artifacts.
The Regional Agricultural Society had its first annual fair in 1902 and movable buildings were used for the exhibition of livestock, horse pulling contests and other activities. The third annual fair was held in 1904 at a cost of $1500; the fairground grew quickly from one building to three by 1908. The grounds were used for picnics and celebrations, but suffered heavily during the winter months.

It is open from 7 am to 10 pm every day except for Sunday when it opens at 8 am. Outside of those hours, it is still open, but the food suddenly becomes much more expensive.
Every Thursday there is a market at the town hall on Fourth Avenue. This is where you can find all sorts of fresh fruits and veggies, baked goods and clothes, and some foods that are clearly not fruits or veggies.

Transportation in Provost, Alberta
In Provost, Alberta, the main mode of transportation is by car. However, some people who prefer to walk or cycle use a bike-share program.
"If you are looking for convenience and ease of accessibility, then a car is your best bet," said Stephanie Bancroft. "But if you are looking for quality and variety of options, bikes or walking might be better. Efficiency is higher for walking."
The bike-share program in Provost consists of two restaurants, both in the downtown area. The program is managed by VeloMetro and riders can rent bikes and return them at either location. A bike can be rented for $5 per trip with an annual membership of $75 or $5 per day with a ride pass costing $20 per year. Visitors can rent bikes by the hour, with hourly rental costing $2.25-$3 and rental time being 30 minutes.
