MoonStream Vintage Campground offers a unique camping / glamping experience at the base of the mountains in beautiful Buena Vista, Colorado. Come stay just minutes away from all of the hiking, biking, rafting, snow-shoeing and snowmobiling that the Collegiate Peaks and the San Isabel National Forest have to offer. We have boutique RV sites and in-place Airstream staycations available nightly, weekly, or monthly. All of our sites have full hook-ups, with their own fire rings, picnic tables, and incredible views - yet we offer something different from the typical RV Park: spacious sites set back from your neighbors, free wifi to all sites, quiet creekside pathways and picnic areas for your enjoyment, and two large communal fire pits for all of your ‘mallow-roasting and campfire singalong needs. We pride ourselves on creating a camping experience like that from days gone by - emphasizing community, comfort, and outdoor enjoyment above all. While we don’t offer such amenities as cable TV or laundry, we hope you’ll appreciate the unique magic of MoonStream's vintage camp experience!

Area Tips

MoonStream Vintage Campground is located at the base of Cottonwood Pass just 5 minutes west of Buena Vista, CO.

The Arkansas River, just minutes to the east, offers some of the best whitewater in the country. Check out our friends at The Adventure Company (theadventurecompany.com) for all your river adventures.

With the 4-mile Recreation Area just east of the Arkansas River and numerous other mountain-top routes to the west, we are a mountain biker's and off-roader's paradise. And in the winter time, Cottonwood Pass closes to automobiles and opens up to snowmobiles.

To wind down, Cottonwood Hot Springs is just 5 minutes to the west, and Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort is 15 minutes to the south. Cottonwood Lake (no motors allowed), 15 minutes up the pass, has great fishing – though we’ve caught brown trout in the creek right here on the property.

Numerous hiking trails - including the Continental Divide Trail and the Colorado Trail - can be accessed just minutes away up Cottonwood Pass, and there are trailheads for thirteen Fourteeners within a 45-minute drive (Mt. Princeton's 14,197' summit is under 4 hours from your campsite...if you hustle). In the winter, there are endless opportunities for backcountry skiing and snowshoeing. If you're into backcountry skiing or splitboarding, or want to try it out for the first time, get in touch with Buena Vista Mountain Adventures (bvmountainadventures.com).

Upon your return to civilization, check out the bars, restaurants, and shops on Main Street or South Main in Buena Vista, or catch a showing at the Comanche Drive-In Theater just a few hundred yards up the road.

We think the best food in the valley is 50 Burger down in Salida, but if you’re looking to stay a little closer, we think Buena Vista’s best meal can be found at Wesley & Rose at the Surf Hotel. And for a night out, the Deerhammer Distillery on Main Street and Eddyline Brewery across from the library are super cool spots.

Truck Camper, Van, or Small Motorhome

This site is only big enough for truck campers, vans, or small motorhomes. The space is literally 25' long by 8' wide. There is a picnic table and fire ring, and also a 1977 Airstream Excella that we are in the process of renovating. Until the Airstream is complete, we figured we'd open up the parking spot to small rigs looking for hookups in the valley.

Patrick, the owner, was so kind and communicative about our stay. We had to have a part shipped to his house to repair our van and he helped accommodate that request, even being out of town at the time for the holidays. The location is great (close to BV and Cottonwood Hot Springs) and the hangout spots down by the creek look like a great place to relax in the summer. The only drawback is that the sites are very close together and very minimalistic (no trees or shrubs) so there’s no privacy. Trash, recycling and even dog waste bags on site, which is great! The vintage RVs and tiny homes look like they’d be fun to stay in.

We always enjoy staying here, Patrick is super helpful and makes the stay hassle free. It's in a great area close to the Main Street area but tucked away enough for quiet nights.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Close to town. Right on the road to cottonwood pass. When we arrived one of hosts came out to help us get backed into our site. Every time I've spoken to these folks they have been upbeat and friendly. We will stay here again@

We had a lovely stay at Moonstream Vintage campground. The lot was well designed, clean and had all hook ups. The views are so beautiful especially in Fall. We enjoyed the creek and visiting with the owner.

Beautiful smaller RV park! We spent just a brief rainy night here, but will definitely be back. Everything is in tip top shape (clean & new -- so nice to plug in to a new power pedestal!), the owner is very nice and welcoming. Really designed well from the ground up. We had a lovely pull thru spot -- I can back a trailer fine but it's great not to have to do that after a long day on the road. Also, we highly recommend Crave BV for dinner in town -- there is plenty of RV parking by the train tracks. We rolled into Buena Vista, had dinner (awesome pizza), then drove to Moonstream (just a 6 minute drive).

This seems to be a rather new campground and we liked it a lot. The campground is rather small but also has the feeling of being amongst friends / family. The surroundings have been done very nicely and with much love for detail. The rentable Airstreams provide a cool look to the place. 👍 Everything is new and tidy (e.g. the hook-ups are brand new). What is a huge pro for us is that they do recycle. 👍 The owner also installed some really nice recreation spots on the creek nearby, so that was a nice surprise. On the downside is to mention the WiFi which has a really bad connection. There are several APs available but none of them were fast / reliable. It's OK for doing some Google searches and maybe some trip planning with Maps but nothing more. So I would recommend to boost that. 😉 As of now (mid September 2022) there are no restrooms available so you will have to be self contained. We recommend this place and would return if in the area. But beware if you are traveling with a Motorhome/ RV and want to soak at the nearby Cottonwood Hot Springs! They do not allow RVs to cross their wooden bridge at the entry... 🙈

Very nice, small, friendly campground. Easy in and out pulling our 34ft fifth wheel. We enjoyed walking down the path to the creek every day. The location was great for exploring the surrounding areas.

I went into the trip with low intentions. I've had poor experiences with full hookup campgrounds. I was pleasantly surprised with moonstream. First off, it is CLEAN! The sites, roads and trails were beautiful. Second, it is quiet. There were no loud partying drunks, screaming kids or barking dogs. Third, the scenery is spectacular! You can see three 14k foot peaks from the site, and one of them is a nice hike away. I highly recommend moonstream to anyone that appreciates the things I have listed and I will be going back next time I'm staying in Colorado. Patrick was a great host!

Good stuff. The location was right at the base of Mt Princeton so the views were great. Remote location with quick access to Cottonwood lake but still very close to downtown BV. Check out the Comanche drive in if possible (it's right across the street!). Easy no-stop-required check in and check out. All necessary info was provided in detailed emails beforehand. Caretaker (maybe also the owner?) was friendly and on-site.

This is a great campground in a great place. It's far enough outside of BV to no be in the swarm of people, but such an easy drive in to the downtown area and river access. there is so much to do from here that is so close. the campground is clean, and has a good vibe.

Patrick was always so helpful and positive. All the systems supporting our camper were AOK and functional. We met some nice folks while staying our 5 evenings. We'll be recommending Moon Stream to friends :-)

Hooked up a Class A RV at this campground. All hookups we’re in good shape with easier than normal access (in a trench allowing one to stand!). Good spot for cyclists and people wanting town, hot spring or trail access by bicycle. Will surely stay here again. The views? Awesome!!! The campground is cute, cozy, small and quiet.

Well equipped unique vintage airstream with awesome views and property along a beautiful mountain river. Bed was super comfortable too! Helpful owners who are very responsive. Definitely recommend for those wanting a true mountain experience. Beautiful cottonwood pass and my Princeton hot springs not far away.
