The aquatic plants in the water make it appear blue/green, and it's quick the sight! You can also check out the sink hole, try one of the hiking trails around the park or go birding. Facing the Sacramento mountains to the east, the Elks Lodge 1897 is for members and visiting Elks only, and is a quiet place to get away for a few days. With full hookups, 30/50 amp sites, laundry facilities, showers, restrooms, WIFI and a restaurant on-site, this is a Alamogordo favorite. Visitors can enjoy golfing at a nearby golf course, the space hall of fame, the oldest zoo located in Alamogordo, the White Sand National Monument nearby, skiing, gambling, fishing and zip-lining. The North Highlands Campground is located in the Elephant Butte Lake State Park and is a great place for a quiet escape into the beautiful vistas of New Mexico. There's also an insane expense of clear skies above for stargazing so be sure to set aside at least one evening to look up at the iconic New Mexico light show. 

The Holloman AFB FamCamp is used for military professionals and is located within the New Mexico Air Base. The park is safe and well-known for its easy access to sights like the White Sands National Monument, Space History Museum, CLoudcroft, Pistacio Farms, Ruidoso, White Sands Missile Range and the Organ Mountains. If you like history, you'll have a blast at this campground. 

Look forward to an exquisite sunrise over Mirror Lake while you camp at the Figure 8 Lake Campground in Roswell. Hike or bike the trails around the site, and enjoy the warmth as you stand on one of the many hills and take in the breadth of the land. Motorized vehicle sports are also common as is picnicking on the leveled plains. The Quail Run Campground is located in Elephant Butte, New Mexico and is a great spot for a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of the state's big cities. Nearby are great local restaurants like Amici's Pizza, Casa Taco, and eateries among the shops at Wiregrass. The campground is relatively close to the Rio Grande river, so take a day trip out there to visit the marina and go sailing. The area is also perfect for hiking, biking and great sight seeing. The Lost Canyon Campground is located in the Elephant Butte Lake State Park is one of the most central to the lake of all the campgrounds in the area. Campers here can enjoy a plethora of great activities such as water skiing, fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing and paddle boarding, as well as enjoy local attractions in the city. Nearby is a visitor center (on Broadway) with tons of helpful guides so you can get the most out of your stay. There's also a museum for visitors to peruse and a ghost town nearby. Also be sure to look up at night to see the spectacular light show iconic of the southwest. 

The Lake Van Recreation is located in Dexter, New Mexico on Lake Van. This is an especially popular site, not just for excellent fishing and boating opportunities on the lake, but also for its proximity to several excellent attractions. Visitors can take advantage of day trips to the Carlsbad Caverns and Roswell. These two sites in particular are fun and exciting spots where campers can learn some interesting facts about New Mexico's geological landscape and history with the "unknown." The area is also great for immersing yourself in pristine terrain, so don't forget to carve out time to hike or bike through the various trails.

The Volunteer Park Travel Campsite is military personnel only, and as you would expect, it is clean, well-managed and operated by friendly, helpful staff. With a beautiful view and relatively close proximity to Las Cruces and the White Sands National Monument, you have a lot of space and flexibility to move around and explore. Adventure through the cities of New Mexico or the gorgeous natural terrain, and return to a comfortable park filled with convenient amenities.

Though small, the lake known as Devil's Inkwell is prime for fishing and is the perfect spot for a campground. The name comes from the abundance of aquatic creatures in the water, giving it the deep blue appearance of ink. Enjoy the sights, smells and quiet of acres and acres of peaceful desert vista as you fish, hike, bike, and of course: star gaze. Keep your eyes to the sky at dawn and dusk and soak in the beauty of a New Mexico sunrise or sunset. You'll be truly mesmerized. 

Located in the Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico are the Bluff Springs Dispersed Campsites. It is a partially developed picnic area with dispersed campsites with spectacular mountain views, and beautiful forestry all around. Take one of the trails around clumps of wildflowers, and be sure to catch at least one sunset or sunrise; have a camera handy! There's also a few small waterfalls within the park so keep your eyes open for that! Most visitors to this site go off to the Cloudcroft village to take advantage of the local sights and do some gift or food shopping. Maybe you'll be in time for one of the three annual festivals that take place in Zenith Park in the village.
