Eagle Nest RV parks and campgrounds are clustered at the north shore of Eagle Nest Lake in the morning shadow of Touch-Me-Not Mountain and Green Mountain just to its south. These mountains are covered with hike and bike trails and when combined with the opportunities for watercraft usage of the lake, make the town one of the most popular in New Mexico for RV enthusiasts. In that respect, Eagle Nest is the complete package for outdoor adventure.
Eagle Nest Lake State Park extends along the western edge of the lake and at more than 8,000 feet above sea level, remains relatively cool in the summertime when most of the rest of New Mexico is sweltering. Cimarron Canyon State Park runs along Route 64 and comprises one of the many stops along the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway. The park extends along a stretch of the Cimarron River which has plenty of spots to drop a line for fishing, and there are miles of trails winding through the piney forests for hiking, biking, and even horseback riding. The park also has areas for camping and picnics.
The benefit of setting up camp in and around the Eagle Nest area is its proximity to other popular destinations in northern New Mexico like Taos, Red River, Angel Fire, and Santa Fe. Folks who choose to make camp in Eagle Nest also find themselves within a reasonable day’s drive from Kiowa National Grasslands, Albuquerque, San Juan National Forest, and Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
