Ponil Campground is located in northern New Mexico at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. We feature full 30/50 amp electric hookup sites along with tent sites for those seeking something a little more different. Visitors have access to bath houses and laundry facilities.

Given our convenient location, we are only a few hours drive to iconic New Mexico spots like Taos, Santa Fe, Angel Fire, Eagles Nest and Red River. Take day trips from the campground to visit casinos, do some shopping and enjoy local fine dining, while also taking in the exquisite desert vistas on your drive. In the area surrounding the campsite, you can enjoy art galleries, local foods and a grocery store for your convenience. Hunting, fishing, back packing, 4 wheeling, horse back riding and golfing are some of the things you can do in this part of New Mexico! Whether its for a day or two, we hope to see you soon!

Got to the RV Park a little later in the afternoon than we had planned. So, we were fighting the clock as we had an appointment and were running short on time. The spot we were supposed to use had a motor home in it and he used the facilities for "our" spot and the next one which was vacant. No wrangler around and no note on her door saying when she would be back or a phone number. We went ahead and set up next to where we were supposed to be although it was barely big enough for our three slides. Changed clothes and was ready to leave when she showed. Very nice, pleasant lady. She said she would make him move but we were already set up. All we were going to do was sleep there 2 nights so it was OK this time. I would definitely stay there again , but would remind her that its her job to keep my spot that I paid for in advance for me.

I have a small camper so I was put between to huge cottonwood trees. I wanted to put out my awning so had to pull so far ahead that my elect cord just reached. The water hook-up was so close to ground that it was difficult. However it is the only RV park for miles around.

Beautiful campground with lots of mature shade trees. Exceedingly clean and quiet. The hosts were very responsive, nice, and helpful. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their piece of the world. Great location with lots to do.

We reserved tent campsite for 5 nights to visit our daughter working at Philmont scout ranch for the summer and celebrate 4th of July weekend. Beautiful wooded campsite with water close to our site, clean restrooms and hot water for shower after long day of hike. During a hike on the second day at the nearby Cimarron state park my wife broke her ankle so we had to head back to Texas for surgery. The campsite owners installed a canopy in front of our tent to protect from evening sun, gave a nice cushioned stool to keep her leg elevated and refunded unused days of camping (policy is no refund). They went way beyond their way to make us as comfortable as possible. These days when most owners are interested in profit these people care for their guests in addition to great campsites. We will definitely come back once my wife is healed and highly recommend this site if your plans for stay in Cimarron area

Campground Response

Thank you for your review it was so wonderful to have you and your wife here so sorry about her hiking injury. We love to be stewards of people not just the campground hope to see you after she heals

Quiet and welcoming camp ground. The grounds were clean and well maintained. The bath house was also clean and well maintained. There’s two showers in the men’s room and they were both clean and in order. I’ve stayed at ponil many times and it never disappoints

Campground Response

Thank you for your review we appreciate you staying with us and taking the time to give us a great review we look forward to you staying with us in the future

Affordable option for Scouts and scouters headed to Philmont. Bathrooms, laundry and shelter are clean and convenient. Bring soap, they don’t sell it there, also limited power for tent campers needing to charge devices. Great overall experience.

Campground Response

Thanks for your review and your stay soap is always available just call our emergency contact number on door and we would love to give you some we always enjoy the scouts and will install a few charging stations in the pavilion for next season thank you

This is a great camp ground for RV or tent camping. I tent camped in the boy scout area. The new owners (as of 2022) are fantastic and caring. The facilities are clean and work well. Good showers too!

Was a excellent spot to see the enchanted circle. We have visible cell service and had no service. They have WiFi that worked for use. Would definitely stay again.

Good campground that was quiet and not busy. Marie is a great host. The game room helped keep family occupied during the rainy weather we experienced. New foosball table and she is adding air hockey i think to the game room which was great for kids. Bath house is ok and laundry facility is decently priced. There was a swing set but no playground which is why I give it 4 stars, since we prefer campgrounds with that for our kids. But overall, we enjoyed our stay and being able to camp with our family and in-laws.

Campground Response

Thank you for staying with us will definitely be adding a kids section soon.

We were treated so nice. The place needs work but, the new owners up to it.

Friendly, accommodating, and VERY clean restroom/shower facilities. Even though the campground is next to a road, traffic noise is not an issue, even on Friday or Saturday night with Cold Beer right up the road. We tent-camped and had restful nights and ample space. Highly recommended, especially for Scouts on the way to Philmont.

Campground Response

Thank you for staying with us we appreciate you and love having our scouts with us.

Nice for an overnight stay sites were pretty tight. Would of given 4 stars but when I went to take a shower the doors were locked

Campground Response

Sorry about the inconvenience we have the showers locked October to April when we are limited services but our camp host should have given you a key .

Aging property with lots of older full time units. Nice lady met us. Right location for our brief stay. Nothing special.
