Ponil Campground is located in northern New Mexico at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. We feature full 30/50 amp electric hookup sites along with tent sites for those seeking something a little more different. Visitors have access to bath houses and laundry facilities.

Given our convenient location, we are only a few hours drive to iconic New Mexico spots like Taos, Santa Fe, Angel Fire, Eagles Nest and Red River. Take day trips from the campground to visit casinos, do some shopping and enjoy local fine dining, while also taking in the exquisite desert vistas on your drive. In the area surrounding the campsite, you can enjoy art galleries, local foods and a grocery store for your convenience. Hunting, fishing, back packing, 4 wheeling, horse back riding and golfing are some of the things you can do in this part of New Mexico! Whether its for a day or two, we hope to see you soon!

Nice for an overnight stay sites were pretty tight. Would of given 4 stars but when I went to take a shower the doors were locked

Aging property with lots of older full time units. Nice lady met us. Right location for our brief stay. Nothing special.

The campground and facilities were old and relatively expensive. I had a tight site with no view. It's the only game in town.... Also there are NO restaurants available to eat breakfast at.

Brent Hall

The park staff was great, especially the lady on site 22. Everything was neat and clean. The Cimarron area has a lot of great museums.

Loved this place! My husband mountain bikes so we wanted to find a place close to Angel Fire but without Angel Fire prices. It was quieter and more peaceful than any other park we've been to. Lots of trees and shade and room between sites. We had to arrive late in the evening because of vehicle troubles on the way, and when I called to let them know they said that was no problem at all and we could check in any time or even the next day if needed. Appreciate their kindness and flexibility, will definitely stay again if we're in the area!

Small, quiet campground in an out of the way place. Not terribly scenic but it’s clean and the people are nice and friendly. Easy in and out.

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Ponil Campgrounds. Our site was great: there was a lot of room between us and the other RV and there were lots of trees. Our family with a tent was able to choose a site that was secluded. The lady in charge was very friendly and helpful. We intend to go back!

Awesome place to stay!

Spaces are too crowded. Not enough room to open awning between units for a patio, outside dining, grill area. It’s an attractive park at the mouth of Ponil canyon, just needs more space between units.

We have stayed here before and were looking forward to the July 4th weekend...we arrived and checked in to space 2...knowing it would be packed, there was huge mud hole in our parking spoke that smelled like manure, so we asked if we could park out of the hole and were told yes, whatever would make it work...the next day different lady came out and was totally rude to my husband saying that we needed to move our truck because its in another rv spot ...he told her that we were given the ok to park there and she got more demanding and said she was the owner and that she was going to charge us for another spot ,he told her again that we were given permission to park out of the smelly mud hole that she herself had to avoid... the guy next to us said she was horrible to my husband, totally uncalled for her to be so ugly...the smelly mud hole and mainly her behavior really put a damper on our weekend. :-(

This campground is pretty basic, a nice location. 3 minutes from town center. The hosts were Very Friendly! Very helpful and ready to assist with direction and where to go.. small campground, so not hard to navigate. They pack ya in tight though. (we were 2' from other rv's on both sides). A little too tight for me, would be good if it was spread out a few more feet on each sides. But front and back sides tons of room. Easy to pull through. Flat entry/exits so no worries of trailer bottoming out.

Rosalind Newren

The RV park is in need of sprucing up. The sites are located too close together. It is particularly notable that one row of sites of nine was nearly vacant and the proprietor placed another camper next to the one already there....with only about 4' separating the units. Had the park been full, it would have been understandable though not ideal.

Facility needs work- The people are very nice.

Easy to find along the highway. We got in late, so we took an empty RV spot because we could not locate the tent sites in the dark. Facilities were clean. Quiet except for the highway traffic. Would absolutely stay here again.

Hi stay was good ...no help from staff after arrival at 6:00pm ...(she) the camp mgr seemed confused ...after asking what site Was to be occupied...bath rooms cleaned...nice quiet rustic area ...heard an owl hooting...all ok thanx. T Panza

We found this campground to be clean and neat. We stayed in lot #1. It was a full hookup site with shade. The laundry room was locked and we couldn’t use it. Everything else was fine. This campground has easy access to the highway and easy in and out for our big rig pulling a Jeep.

Made reservations for 3 nites by phone. First they tried to charge us for a week...then 5 days...finally got it straight. The whole place is a pit. One pull-through. No water at the ONLY available spot. Had to clear limbs and trash to back in there. Our trike trailer had to be parked a block away behind buildings out of our sight. We had to leave the trike by our bedroom window and even then, it was ransacked. Nothing stolen, but only because we had a dog. Left after one nite. Scared not to. Of course, no refund. Do NOT believe the pics. The place is all trashy with permanent residents.

Campground Response

I don't know where you stayed but it wasn't here. All our RV sites have water we are in the country with ranches all around us. Never had any problems like you say in the 18 years we owned this park. Always refund money when someone needs to leave, the only thing that could be scary here is if a bear or fox wanders in. Can't control nature. Never had trash or limbs in a space except in the middle of a storm with high winds. Read the other reviews about how great it is here..

Robert Goodrich

This campground is in poor repair. First there was an up charge of 3 percent on the bill for using a credit card that was not posted on website. Then when I went to hookup water to RV I had to dig out a hole to get to connection. The sites are extremely close to each other about 4 feet apart. The park manager was very rude lady. This might’ve ok for a night but very rundown

Nice RV Park. East in and out.
