About Maricopa

The Maricopa Arizona RV parks and campgrounds tend to cluster to the south and east of town around Casa Grande, with a couple excellent options just south of town on either side of Stanfield. These spots run the gamut from sparse, no-frills RV camps to full blown RV resorts, for which Arizona has become so well-known.

This part of the Gila River Valley, with its natural wells, farmable land, and peaceful Maricopa and Pima Natives, was an important stop on the old mail trail. Before the railroads had been built, packages and correspondence travelled westward from San Antonio and almost certainly came through Maricopa on their way to their intended recipients. The area today has been incorporated as part of the southern edge of the Phoenix metro area, and folks looking for a little nature and a little history are wise to venture this way.

The Sonoran Desert National Monument, with more diverse flora than any other desert in North America, offers hiking, backpacking, stargazing, camping, hunting, motor touring, sightseeing, photography, and horseback riding. Many RVers make their way to the Maricopa area in the winter and shoulder seasons, and full-timer, “snowbird” campers choose this region for its temperate weather.

For some grownup fun, Harrah’s Ak-Chin hotel and casino has poker tournaments, slots, and many other table games. The Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club is a favorite for golfers, while the Ultra Star Multi-tainment Center has games for kids. This part of Arizona is also well known for its off-roading spots for OHV and ATV enthusiasts looking for a shot of adrenaline as they explore the natural beauty of Central Arizona.
