The Joe Skeen BLM is located in Grants, New Mexico and was established in 1987 protect nationally significant ecological, cultural, geological, scenic, scientific and wilderness resources located around the Grants Lava Flows. Visitors to the area can look forward to beautifully preserved sandstone cliffs, canyons and the La Ventana Natural Arch. These natural formations connect the New Mexico terrain to the culture and history of the area's Native American past and present, giving them significance beyond it's asthetic appeal. The New Canyon Campground is located in Mountainair New Mexico in the Cibola National Forest. Look forward to acres and acres of juniper, ponderosa pine and gambel oaks as well as the fresh, crisp air that comes with such a thick and lush forest. Hit the short but scenic Coal Mine Natural Trail, or carve your own path through the trees whether hiking or mountain biking. Also look forward to picnicking, cave exploration and star gazing. The Gallinas River Campground is located in the beautiful town of Las Vegas, New Mexico and is a great spot for an authentic outdoor escape. The area is also well-known for excellent fishing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, water skiing, caoneing and boating. The Wild Rivers National Recreation Area is located within the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument and along the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River. That being said, expect some of the most untouched, breathtaking views of nature this side of the United States. Experience the beauty of an 800-foot deep canyon, volcanic flowers and naturally rugged vistas. The diverse terrain ensures the perfect environment for a flourishing flora and fauna ecosystem. While you hike the trails, look out for gorgeous birds and small animals, as well as beautiful blooming flowers and plants. Besides hiking, you can also go boating, fishing, biking, picnicking and scenic driving.

Lose yourself in the tall pines of the Little Oso Primitive Campground at the Heron Lake State Park in New Mexico. The lake is designated a "quiet lake," so boat operators cannot ride at wake speeds. The Blanco Campground is located in the Heron Lake State Park, Los Ojos, New Mexico. The picturesque Heron Lake is located among the  gorgeous talls pines native to New Mexico, and long-time campers love this area because it's a designated "quiet lake." Boat operators cannot get up to wake speeds, meaning there's not only peacefulness for visitors to enjoy, but a still water surface for canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Campers also love fishing at this lake. Look forward to kokanee salmon and record-size trout. There's also plenty to see for the wildlife viewer; keep your eyes open for osprey, bald eagles, mule deer, elk, deer and mountain lions.  

The Coyote Creek State Park is located an hour east of Taos, and is nestled in the Sangre De Cristo mountains. Just beside a meandering stream, campers can enjoy hours of fly fishing, as well as the sights and sounds of a flourishing waterside oasis that's enclosed by spruce and pine. The Brushy Point Campground is located at the Heron Lake State Park, and is set among the picturesque tall pines of northern New Mexico. Designated as a "quiet lake," boat operators cannot get up to wake-speeds, making it an excellent location for paddle-crafts liek canoes and kayaks. Get on the lake surface to enjoy a peaceful and easy-going float on the lake, and be sure to cast a few lines to catch record-sized trout and kokanee salmon. Ice fishing is very popular during the winter, as is cross-country skiing. During the warmer months, be sure to hike, bike and picnic your way around the lake, taking in the beautiful natural terrain as you go. 

Get ready for a rustic, peaceful getaway at the Sands Cove Primitive Campground, where campers can truly relax in a distraction-free space. Look forward to a gorgeous natural terrain and a cove that's ready to be fished, and equally as great for paddle boarding and kayaking. There's also some beautiful and not-too challenging trails for hiking and biking, and if you get caught out at dusk, prepare for the spectacular light show of a New Mexico sunset.

The town of Taos is also relatively close by, so be sure to swing by for supplies, shopping and plenty of local eateries to get a feel for the culture of the state.
