Enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Canyon, where you will find acres of rugged mesa country with petroglyphs, carving in the soft stone walls and the standing masonry walls that play tribute to the areas rich cultural past and present. Look out for wildlife such as black bears, mule deer, mountain lions and squirrels as well as birds like canyon towhees and Stellar's jays. One hiking trail extends from the campsite, however, there are other trails just outside the site and excellent rock climbing opportunities at the Bandelier Monument. Located in the Gallup Parks and Recreation system is the Red Rock Park. The red cliffs are remnants of the dinosaur age and are especially popular with history buffs. The campground is known for having a great deal of activities for visitors; expect a full slate of sports, entertainment and cultural events, as well as the occasional rodeo. The Lions Club Rodeo is held yearly and draws large crowds; they come through during the summer months so don't miss it! True to the Native American heritage of the state, the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial and the Ceremonial Rodeo are held near the RV Park.
