About Hoquiam

Hoquiam, Washington Campgrounds and RV Parks

The RV parks in Hoquiam are both in the city and spread around the outskirts, with a majority of the options being right on the Pacific coast only a few miles from town. The benefit of camping in Hoquiam is being close to the ocean but also a short drive from many of the natural attractions of the Pacific Northwest like Capitol State Forest, Olympic Peninsula Forest, and countless other designations that showcase the area’s stunning beauty. Hoquiam is also within a relatively short drive from the Seattle/Tacoma metro area, the state capitol in Olympia, and gems in Oregon like Portland and Cannon Beach. Even so, there is plenty to see and do around Hoquiam if you know where to look.

If you’re looking for a good time in Hoquiam, Washington, head over to the Grays Harbor Public Market and Craft Fair and warm your bones with a cup of hearty chowder. Afterwards, make your way to the Polson Museum, where this mid-1920s mansion is now a museum of local history donated by the Polson family. The Westport Maritime Museum and Grays Harbor Lighthouse offers more on local history and insight into the community. Those who are interested in paying their respects can wander over to the neighboring town of Aberdeen and visit the Kurt Cobain Memorial Park, which celebrates the life and contributions of a native son of this area and Nirvana front man.

Hoquiam exists thanks to the logging industry that was brought there by Captain Simpson in the 1880’s, and while the industry isn’t quite as robust as once it had been, there is still a strong lumberjack culture and reverence for the trade that made the town possible and provided opportunity for so many who have made their homes here across the generations.

For a glimpse of some living trees, head to any of the fantastic area parks. Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge, Twin Harbors State Park, Westport Light State Park, Westhaven State Park…the list goes on, and on.
