The Westport Maritime Museum and Grays Harbor Lighthouse offers more on local history and insight into the community. Those who are interested in paying their respects can wander over to the neighboring town of Aberdeen and visit the Kurt Cobain Memorial Park, which celebrates the life and contributions of a native son of this area and Nirvana front man.

Hoquiam exists thanks to the logging industry that was brought there by Captain Simpson in the 1880’s, and while the industry isn’t quite as robust as once it had been, there is still a strong lumberjack culture and reverence for the trade that made the town possible and provided opportunity for so many who have made their homes here across the generations.
