About Clear Lake

Clear Lake, Iowa Campgrounds and RV Parks

Clear Lake is famous in a couple of ways. The son of Daniel Boone, Nathan Boone, came through the area on a land survey mission. He made a map of Clear Lake and other surrounding areas. The second thing Clear Lake is famous for is that it’s the place where several famous musicians lost their lives. Clear Lake is where the plane carrying Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper crashed, killing all aboard. The crash site monument is still there, and Clear Lake celebrated their memory by changing one of the streets to “Buddy Holly Place.” After a day paying homage to these legends, check out one of the nearby campgrounds or RV Parks.

If you are in Clear Lake to honor the music, you can stop by the Surf Ballroom – the place where Buddy Holly played his last show. There are concerts still held in the venue, and every February there is a tribute for Buddy. A museum also inside also honors his memory. Tourists come from all over to pay their Rock N’ Roll penance.

Head out on the water aboard the Lady of the Lake – a cruise of Clear Lake. After a day paying homage or cruising the lake, head over to one of the best RV Parks in Iowa.
