About Effingham

Effingham, Illinois Campgrounds and RV Parks

Effingham is “The Crossroads of Opportunity.” That’s what they call themselves, because two highways, I-57 and I-70 converge at Effingham. Travelers flowing west to east and north to south go through the city. It is a great place to stop off and visit. The city is also known from the large cross that was built at the convergence of the highways. It is alleged that the cross is the tallest in the world.

Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park rests just to the south of Effingham. The 3,300 acre park juts out into Rend Lake. The park is made for sport. Hunting is popular, with hunters chasing down deer, pheasants, upland birds and other animals. Fishing on the lake is also popular – channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass and bluegill are all common. Recreational boating, canoeing and kayaking are also fun ways to enjoy the lake.

Effingham is just a short distance from St. Louis. Take the famous I-70 and check out some of the big city life. Check out a St. Louis Cardinals or Rams game. Head up in the famous arch that overlooks the Mississippi River. Then during the evening catch a comedy act or play in the downtown historic district.
