About Naturita

From the Spanish word for “Little Nature,” the city of Naturita is aptly named. It’s for the natural gems in the area that so many folks choose an RV site at one of Naturita’s RV resorts or a neighboring campground. At just under a mile above sea level, this quaint town of only a few hundred has a movie theater, a few restaurants, and plenty of shops to explore. But those who have chosen the area for RV camping in Colorado mostly come for Naturita’s crowd-free wilderness.

Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area is one of Colorado’s best loved natural designations, and borders the equally stunning Uncompahgre National Forest to the South. Together, these two protected areas represent thousands of square miles of trails, winding roads, breathtaking vistas, and dense alpine woods. To the southeast are the popular tourist towns of Telluride, Silverton, and Ouray, and there are two popular state parks within an easy day’s drive.

Ridgeway State Park is open year-round and is a favorite among birders, anglers, and folks who want to lay out on the beach without venturing over a thousand miles to the nearest ocean. Closer to Naturita is Dan Noble State Wildlife Area, which offers a lot of the same amenities.

What makes this part of Western Colorado unique to much of the rest of the world is the fact that it’s where the red rock desert of the American Southwest meets the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. Case in point: Naturita is nearly equidistant from the desert paradise of Canyonlands National Park in Utah and Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area. It's a great place for RV camping .
