While there are technically RV Parks and campgrounds in Visalia, by far the most popular for folks who will be travelling through are around the outside of town. Luxury RV resorts are plentiful in towns like Goshen, Kingsburg, Tulare, and Three Rivers. But the town of Visalia has lots for residents and visitors alike to explore and experience.
Downtown Visalia is navigable by trolley, so getting around is already way cuter than it is in most cities. The ImagineU Interactive Children’s Museum is downtown, as is the Enchanted Playhouse Theater, and the Community Players at the Icehouse Theatre. (This is California, so theater is kind of a big deal.) Sample local foods and peruse local handicrafts at the Visalia Farmer’s Market, or check out Arts Visalia, a revolving space for local artists and craftspeople.
If you’re looking to get outside but not venture too far from downtown, Visalia has lots of wonderful outside spaces to explore. Check out the Bravo Lake Botanical Garden, which combines the local history, culture, and naturalism into an at once beautiful and informative experience. For a classic day outdoors, there’s the aptly named Recreation Park, which has basketball courts, playgrounds, a skate park, barbeques, and volleyball courts. Kaweah Oaks Preserve, just east of Visalia, is at the base of the Sequoia Riverlands area. And if you follow the rolling golden foothills towards the Sierra Nevada Mountains, you’ll run into Lake Kaweah, perhaps the most popular spot for recreation among locals.
But let’s be real for a minute: Most folks visiting Visalia are planning to visit one of the National Parks just a short drive away from town. Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, and Sierra National Forest are among the world’s most popular destinations, and are known as fantastic spots for camping.
Pro Tip: If you haven’t yet made reservations with a Visalia RV Park and they’re booked, there’s always nearby Bakersfield and its many RV Parks as well.
