About Rimbey

Located about 60 miles southeast of Edmonton and nestled in the picturesque valley of the Red Deer River, Rimbey is a rural hamlet with a population of 2,370 people. Rimbey’s history goes back to 1874 when a group of settlers from Pennsylvania selected the site for their settlement. In 1946, Rimbey became a town when it amalgamated with the neighboring towns of Edson and Turner Valley. Today, the town offers farmers a regular supply of milk and cream from its dairy farms. A strong agricultural economy, coupled with the surrounding scenery and infrastructure make Rimbey one of Alberta’s finest towns and a great place to live.

The Rimbey & District Museum is a community-based museum that offers the public an opportunity to view artifacts, photographs and other historical and cultural material. The museum is housed in the Rimbey Public School building, which was built in 1913.

Rimbey’s sports history started with its hockey club in 1909 when it was known as the Rimbey Thistles (the name was changed to the Rimbey Kings when the team moved into a new rink in 1925).

Transportation in Rimbey

The transportation around this town is not much to speak of.

All the people that live in Rimbey and the surrounding areas usually have their own cars.

It can be a little hard to get around town if you don't have your own car or if the weather is bad and you couldn't walk anywhere for any reason.

If you don't have a car and you want to go somewhere, either you would be getting someone to take you there or waiting for the next morning for the school bus or a neighbor's car to take you there.

One good thing that Rimbey has is a taxi service but it doesn't really go anywhere, it just goes into town.
