About Claresholm

Claresholm is a small city in Southern Alberta. Its location is off the Trans-Canada Highway. The city has a minimal population. It's about 25 km away from Red Deer, 100 km away from Calgary, 130 km away from Edmonton. It is also home to one of two provincial historic sites, Castle Mountain Provincial Historic Site.

There are many campgrounds located in the city, with Shandro Park being one of them. It's located on 2nd Avenue South, off the Trans-Canada Highway. There are about 50 sites available and there is a dumping station available.

 

There is also the 'Shandro Campground' its location is at Box 447, Claresholm, Alberta T0L 0T0. The Shandro Campground is open year-round, with a price range of $18-$25 per night. All sites have water and power hookups while some have sewer connections at an extra cost of $8 per night.

 

Transportation in Claresholm, Alberta

 

There are some ways to get around in Claresholm. If you are driving, the Trans-Canada highway will run through the city. Air transportation runs in Claresholm Airport and is home to two small private runways (one paved, one gravel) with a 2,400-foot runway length. The airport is at 2nd Avenue and 14th Street NW and the municipal government operates it. It's used for a small private plane with no scheduled commercial traffic available.

Claresholm is a small city. It is home to two provincial historic sites. The Castle Mountain Provincial Historic Site has over 80 pieces of art and architecture dating back to the early 1700s. The site also has an outdoor theater that holds shows throughout the summer.

The other site is Claresholm Museum which contains artifacts that are representative of life in Alberta from the early 1900s.

There are several shopping malls located in the city; one is 'Vacation Village'. The Vacation Village has over 100 stores, a movie theatre, and an ice rink. The city has a Tim Hortons and a local restaurant called 'Moxie's'. If you are looking for other dining options then there is also a family restaurant called 'Friends Family Restaurant'. This place offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is also Denny's restaurant located at 20th Street and 2nd Avenue South.

 

Entertainment in Claresholm, Alberta

 

Other than the Castle Mountain Provincial Historic Site which has outside theatre performances year-round, there are few entertainment sites in Claresholm. There is a bowling alley and an ice rink that are at the 'Vacation Village' shopping area.

There is also a movie theatre, which has movies running from May to September.

 

The city has some pubs and bars. The locations of this are is in the center of town or at the 'Vacation Village' shopping area. If you're looking for nightlife then you might have to drive about 35 minutes south of Claresholm to 'Red deer', where there are more bars, pubs, and lounges.
