About Cardston

Cardston, Alberta is a town in the southwestern part of Alberta, Canada. Its location is approximately 100 kilometers (62 mi) from Lethbridge. Cardston has been on a list of the fastest-growing Canadian towns since 2006. It's expected to reach a population of 100,000 by 2021.

 

RV Park and Campground

 

There are three campgrounds in or near Cardston. The two of which locations are in the city and one 40 kilometers away outside the city limits. The closest camping to Cardston is Twin Buttes Campground. Its location is on the east side of Highway 2 approximately ten kilometers north of town.

 

Parachute Provincial Park

 

Cardston has two parks, one at each end of town. There are 12 sites in Parachute Provincial Park which includes a bridge that connects each park to one another. Many activities take place at these parks including fishing, hunting, mountain biking, and hiking. But, there is no access to these areas from town because of their remote location.

 

Art and culture in Cardston, Alberta

 

Cardston has a rich history. It's the home of Peter Lougheed, the longest-serving premier of Alberta. A museum dedicated to his life is in town. Cardston is also well known for its history of cowboy culture. With a western heritage museum and many festivals throughout the year. Cardston has also played host to various national folk and country music artists over the years. It includes Hank Snow, George Canyon, David Allan Coe, John Denver, and Johnny Cash.

 

Cardston also features an annual rodeo held in September or October every year at the end of school until now. It moved to Calgary due to local funding provided by Prentice Mining Company.

 

Food in Cardston, Alberta

 

Cardston has a variety of food venues, including two in the city and one outside of town. Cardston restaurants are family owned and serve home cooked meals.

 

Elm Grove Restaurant, located on the northwest side of town at 83 Elm Grove Road, is a family restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They feature all-you-can-eat meals as well as regular menu items. There are only a few tables inside the building, but there is also a patio outside where patrons can sit in the summer months. Elm Grove Restaurant has been in business for over 50 years to date with ownership changing many times. Ruth Thompson has been there for 44 years in total and has seen her three children working there as well.

 

Transportation in Cardston, Alberta

 

The only local transportation in Cardston is a bus service operated by both town and area councils. Cardston has an agreement with Cache La Poudre Regional Hospital to use their hospital buses as these buses operate throughout the winter months. Buses operate on Monday and Wednesday, while they operate every other day during the summer months. They are also used for trips to the town's two parks, Parachute Provincial Park and Twin Buttes Campground, although there is no direct public transit access to these campsites.

 

Entertainment in Cardston, Alberta

 

There are several places to go for entertainment in Cardston, including one theatre in town as well as one in the area. Cardston's theatre is called the Ramada Theatre and it seats up to 200 people. Cardston has also been home to a western museum that features displays of cowboy artwork and western memorabilia. The town also has its own annual rodeo with various activities that take place at various locations throughout the week.
