Suwannee River Hideaway is one of the most beautiful nature-based RV parks you will have the pleasure of camping in. We have the natural beauty and wildlife that you would find and enjoy in a state park, but with more privacy, security, peace, and quiet.

We are located in Old Town, Florida, just 3 miles south of 19/98, but far enough so you do not see or hear traffic. All you will hear at night are our resident owls that visit the campsites as you sit by your campfire. We welcome you to bring your family and enjoy nature in old Florida style!

We are centrally located to several natural springs:

  • Fanning Springs 5 miles
  • Otter Springs 9 miles
  • Hart Springs 12 miles
  • Manatee Springs 18 miles
  • 15 minutes to Chiefland (Walmart, doctors, restaurants, chain stores)
  • 30 minutes to the Gulf of Mexico
  • 45 minutes to Gainesville

Fill your days exploring the local springs, walking along the river and trails, visiting the Gulf of Mexico, or just lounging by our beautiful pool.  After a day of exploring, you can then enjoy stargazing and a campfire followed by a peaceful night's sleep.

This is our second stay and we will be back! It has become our favorite place to camp because it is so quiet and relaxing. There are trails to walk and a very nice pool. My hubby and I had a very stressful workweek we we called the day before to schedule that weekend stay. They had an opening and it was just what we needed. The campground is SO QUIET!! It was just what we needed!! They do have internet if you are wondering. Highly recommended for some R&R.

Clean, quiet, off the beaten path. Saw a plethora of wildlife. The facilities were clean. The pier at the end of the boardwalk needs maintenance, but otherwise the facilities are well keept. I participated in tent camping. I was the only tent camper. Note site 2 does not have a picnic table.

Campground Response

Hi Carrie, thank you so much for your review. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. We are so sorry you did not have a picnic table; you can request one at the office. We don't have them on every site but will gladly move one to your site when needed. Hope to see you again soon.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hideaway. I wish they would take the time to restore it to its original beauty and maintain it better.

Campground Response

Hi John, we are in the process of cleaning up the grounds after the Winter season and it will soon be blooming and immaculate. We also plan to paint the outside structures this Summer and open up the walking trails on the adjacent property. Thank you for your review.

5 stars not not being one of those concrete places near the highway. Lots of space in parts of this older campground. Quiet, way off the beaten path, close enough to Chiefland Walmart an Winn Dixie to visit when you want. About 25 miles to Gainesville and VA. Parks and springs all nearby. Good wifi and two to three bars on Verizon. Not a lot of amenities but good place to hunker down.

Campground Response

Thank you so much for your review, Donald. We greatly appreciate your business. Hope you return soon.

I would have given a higher rating due to the following. 1 - The pool was usable. The 10 days I was there, they couldn't get the green algae out of it. They didn't even have the testing strips to check levels, which tells me they don't monitor it correctly. 2 - It didn't look like they had mowed in a month! They told me they had to weed eat my spot prior to arrival and that wasn't the entire site. 3 - Picnick tables are about shot and falling apart. 4 - Showers and curtains were horrible and way outdated. Lack of proper cleaning is evident. More like an old state park facility. No a/c, poor lighting. 5 - Toilet/Urinals are in bad shape and several closed. 6 - Laundry is pretty much non usable with no hot water available. 7 - Firewood sold was wet and hardly burned. Price too high. 8 - Boardwalk is in need of a lot of wood replacement, and river dock at the end is falling into the river. If you want minimal facilities, primitive type "camping", this is for you. One good thing - everyone was nice and respectful. Very positive point.

Campground Response

Hi Richard, I feel you should have looked at our website and read previous reviews before booking your reservation with us. We are not a resort and have NEVER stated we were. Yes, we are an "Old Florida" style campground, a nature-based campground, and that is what we advertise. I don't know what to say about the fact that you stayed here for 10 days and never reported 1 problem to the camp hosts in that time frame. We had a meeting, and no one remembers you approaching them with any questions or problems. If you were so dissatisfied with our park, why didn't you let us know??? Why wait until after you leave and then post a review like this? We cannot address problems that we are not made aware of. Addressing all of your stated concerns: 1 - Other campers were using the pool and had no complaints. Water is crystal clear. 2- I'm sorry but we have put off mowing until we get more rain so as not to stir up sand and dust for the campers that are here. We take growing grass very seriously. We lost all of our grass during the Winter with the cold and the drought. We have just gotten a little rain and are trying to keep what we have. 3- Picnic tables are left out in the elements of Florida weather. You are always welcome to bring your own table. 4- The shower house is a block building and is to code for hurricane season. If you read the other reviews, our bathhouse is rustic, but is always immaculate. We do not have it climate controlled and do not advertise that it is. (Most RVs are self-contained and has its own bathroom.) The bath house is mainly used by our tent campers who love the rustic style. 5- 1 urinal is closed due to water running when flushed, all other facilities are in working order. 6- We have signs stating the washers are cold water only and it is only $1.50 per load. If you prefer hot water, there is a laundromat in Old Town within 3 miles. But I assure you, it's not $1.50 per load. 7- We go through a lot of firewood and try to keep up with the demand. As all other Florida parks, we do not allow firewood to be brought in from the outside due to bug infestation killing the trees. The firewood may have been greener than we prefer, but we do try our best. 8- There are always things needing to be done to upkeep a 1500-foot boardwalk, but some things require outside help, and in today's world it is hard to find someone willing to work. Yes, we are a nature-based park and that is exactly what we advertise and try our best to provide to our guests. We have found that people either love and enjoy the quiet calmness and seclusion we provide, or they hate it. Those that hate it prefer the corporate owned RV resort that has everything paved, all of the buildings are new, sitting in the middle of a city, surrounded by retail malls and listening to traffic noise. I do wish you the best in your future travels, but please do us all a favor and visit the campground websites and read reviews before staying at a small business, keeping your mouth shut, and then tearing us down in a review. At least you did see the good in our camp hosts, who indeed are terrific!!! I'm glad you recognized that not all things here are bad. I really do thank you for that, as any campground is only as good as its people, and we hit the jackpot this year with ours! We do wish you safe travels, and God bless.

Well kept, tucked away, adventurous little trails everywhere and especially cool half mile boardwalk to the river. Nice community center with games and a place to still have fun if it rains or is too hot. It was too cold to use the pool while we were there but the pool looked spotless and refreshing. It’s small and just to get in and splash around and cool off. Bathrooms were all very clean. Be sure you have a hotspot or other internet service. My cell service was ok for general calls, social media, email, etc. May have been an issue if more people were camping. We were there in March during the week so internet demand in the area was low. My Orbic was a lifesaver for work access. Didn’t try it for TV but surely it would have worked for that. General phone carrier service did not. I think that goes for the whole area though of Old Town, Fanning, Springs, etc.. Certainly a natures lover paradise!!!
