First time camping here and I was floored by how huge the campsites were!! And full of grass so your feet and camper don’t get trashed. Big bonus! Trees everywhere! Lots of accessible trash cans scattered throughout the park, public restrooms and showers available. We had spoken to the owner when we checked in (super nice lady!) and she mentioned that they were short staffed. Sites needed mowing and little pieces of litter scattered about the sites. You could tell they were trying hard with not enough employees so that’s not a complaint! I’d come back and stay here any time! Very quiet and calm campground with access to biking/hiking/atv trails, sturgeon River within walking distance. Had an excellent weekend and absolutely will return! Thank you for such a great place to camp!

Pros: large sites, quiet for the most part Cons: At no fault of the campground, we found it odd and not to mention rude that people would just cut through your site...like right in front of where you are sitting. I am all about meeting new people and saying hello, but for people to just welcome themselves through a lot that you have rented for however long, is just weird to us. This happened more than once and it wasn't just kids. And, it also was not just our sites, we noticed people doing it everywhere. Maybe we just expect different campground etiquette. Again, no fault of the campground, but it was also buggy. The flies were terrible and as the sun went down the mosquitoes came out...bad, bad enough we refused to sit outside one night. The property could use a spray for bugs. We got eaten alive. Had some issues with the power, but it was 90 degrees and everyone was running AC. It was kind of expected because of the weather, but worth noting. The campsites were messy when we arrived, we picked up trash before we even unloaded. (not a ton, but enough that we felt the need to pick it up. The office was quite cluttered and unorganized (it was small, so hard to be organized I suppose) The farm life on site was cool, but the stacks of trash were not. Random stuff everywhere it seemed like. I think the whole property could use a good "cleaning out"... The owner that checked us in was very nice. Welcoming. Probably won't be back, not because it was a terrible experience, but only because if we are going to drive that far from home, we have other campgrounds we enjoy much better. I am not writing this review to be rude, we had a good time...just want people to know what to expect.

Unfortunately after 35 years of visiting this campground annually for our family vacation we are separating from future visits. With recent owner transitions we gave an additional 3 seasons to see improvement and have been disappointed year after year. This campground has let itself go. There are broken down vehicles with weeds growing around it, trash is not regularly picked up, grass was not mowed throughout, the playground has one slide and two swings. The campground is littered with junk throughout and broken down items without repair. The pond has been overtaken by cattails and weeds. The seasonal sites staying there are run down and not well kept or cared for. Water was shut down for several hours without communication. It doesn’t matter if you book a site-when you show up if Someone is on your site you’re just redirected to another site. We booked three sites four months in advance and had to change our sites when we arrived because we were not together. Basically in short this campground has sooooo much potential with access to nearby trails and being on the river and the beauty it once held.

Good campground. Farm animals are very neglected there. Makes for a sad stay. Nothing fancy about this facility. Small fire rings.

We stayed at Sturgeon Valley Campground with our two horses. There is a field in the back of the campground where you can set up portable corrals/electric fencing. You have access to the 61 mile North South Central Michigan trail from the campground. You can ride into Wolverine on the weekend for a meal or ride all the way to Mackinaw City if you are so inclined. The town of Gaylord is close by with lots of shops and places to eat. Other campers were friendly and kind.

I don’t know what’s happened, but I don’t think the laundry has been cleaned since I was there 5 years ago. Bathroom was ok. Where flip flops. I sprayed sanitizer before using.

Campground Response

I am sorry you felt that nothing has been cleaned. I have a lady that cleans restrooms every day, uses bleach and works hard at keeping the restrooms clean and sanitized. She also spent a full day cleaning the laundry room and fully washing the floor from back to front. I'm sure that she would be appalled to think that someone disapproved of it. When campers abuse the spaces this is what we get, Not us but them. Again sorry for your dissppointment. Hope that you will find it better the next time.

Nice camping. Clean bathroom and shower. Very quiet and river behind for kayaking plus can leave for trail riding from the park.

We loved this campground! It was great for having kids. People were respectful and quiet at night, had a good amount of space for the site. Only thing I wish they had was a decent playground. The one they have is small but the kids still enjoyed going over there! The pond was nice for the kids swimming and my husband said he got some fish there also while fishing. The owners are really nice also, while trying to accommodate to everyone.

Overall a Nice campground. Could have a bit better upkeep during the week. The free roaming chickens were not as annoying as I thought they would be, but I could have done without the rooster.

Nice little out of the way campground, helpful staff were looking out for us. The heated bathhouse was GREAT to have for a winter camp out! A good location if you are doing activities on the Sturgeon River.

Very disappointed! We stayed waiting for our house to close we where there a month we ended up leaving early...my brand new 3 day old tires the one got slashed not to mention the owner didn't give us a normal site with a water/electric hook up no fire pit she told me she would move me to a normal site but not once did she we where on a shared site the owner was not very nice she was rude! I will not return back there ever again !

Campground Response

I never spoke to you, you never spoke to me. Dog barking and scattering trash during the night. Bothering a neighbor campsite. Trash accumulated all over the campsite that I had to tell your husband about to get cleaned up. And trash left behind when you left. I never promised I would move you to a different site. You dont know me and so I dont know that you can say I was rude. I dont know who you talkied to but it wasnt me. Sorry your stay was so miserable, but with all the problems during your stay I would not have allowed you to extend.

The campground was excellent. Clean sites, clean bathrooms. The only drawback is the 1 3/4 mile dirt road to the campground. If it wasn't for the dirt road & dust, we would definately go back.

Well, the cabin was not at all what I expected. Clean was the only thing on my list of requirements it is was not. Cobwebs along the ceiling, behind curtains and shades. Dead bugs in the track of the window, a rotted welcome mat half buried in the grass next to the porch steps that are slanted and unsafe. The floor hadn't been vacuumed in a while. The cover on the bed wasn't plastic but cloth and stained. I wrote the word Dust on top of the microwave. The refrigerator was dirty. I went to the showers and found a dried up maxi pad with dried blood on it in the shampoo holder. Needless to say, we won't be back. I have photos

We rented a cabin - was very roomy and clean. Better than the KOA we stayed at the year before. Restrooms were clean, showers were tiled and one had a new shower head. Sites were nice and big. The only down fall I would say was appearance of some of the older buildings. But other than that nice place.

Pictures are very out dated. Swimming pond has no sand and is over grown with weeds. Not once did I see anyone swim. There is no volleyball net, the basketball hoop is on grass no cement to dribble or a net on the hoop, also it along with playground is in a low area so it was wet not useable. The animals looked well taken care of besides their areas completely over grown with weeds and tall grass. Flower boxes had no flowers just weeds. We stayed in the cabin, again not like the pictures at all! The ceiling must have had some water damage so they screwed white bead board up which was all bowed. My kids couldn’t even use the loft bed because it was so close to the ceiling. It smelled mildewed and had spider webs in all the corners. Carpet disgusting. The refrigerator was not very cold. It had two huge bee hives out side hanging off roof. Bathroom was clean. However, we had to walk around a nasty animal poop filled tub to get to it. Over all very disappointed. Campsites did look nice. Lots of grass and trees.

I LOVE this campground. I went on a camping trip throughout Michigan and this was my favorite out of all of them. There is great amenities and great service. If I ever pass through Wolverine again, I will definitely camp here again.

Best place to camp for 4th of july! They had 2 firework shows on July 3, 2021 AND July 4th! The 2nd show was darn near 2.5 hours long and good view! Can't believe how big and how long it went on. They just kept coming! The river is right there too. Nice spot to bring the family. Always hot showers, a Pavillion with grill. Heck, they even have bunnies and a pond, play ground, and trails for quads and stuff! Pet friendly as well. We will be coming every 4th of july. 2021 was their best show yet!!

The owner was very polite and friendly. The campground was very clean. It was a very relaxing experience. It was very convenient having the firewood and bagged ice available for such a low price. There was a lot to do in that area. Definitely will be going back to that one numerous times this year. Matter of fact we’re having a graduation party with family members. Some of us have campers in some rented cabins which make it so nice for everybody to be together
