First and foremost, you must be prepared for the weather. Watch your weather app and prepare for it. If it's going to rain, prepare to get wet. If it is going to be hot or cold, dress and prepare for it. Sleeping bag, appropriate for weather conditions, as there is no heat or A/C in the Tipis. There are 4 cots in each Tipi, and electricity in two of the Tipis if you want to bring an air mattress. Basically anything that makes you comfortable. Camping is supposed to be a happy time!

We stayed 3 nights in the Covered Wagon and absolutely enjoyed our time there. The campground is nice, quiet, and kept neat. The restroom/shower facilities are maintained and kept clean and stocked. We liked relaxing and playing games in the covered picnic area by the pretty pond. The owner was present and available to attend to any issues. I would definitely recommend!

Campground Response

so glad you enjoyed your stay, hope to see you again.

Great place! Peaceful and comfortable. My car's battery went dead for some mysterious reason and the guy that ran the place jumped it-- no problem! That kind of back-up is PRICELESS. I whole-heartedly recommend Sleeping Bear Retreat!

Campground Response

happy to help out. glad you stayed with us.

The Teepees were a fun unique way to camp. We were the only ones around and it was very quiet. It was also a little chilly and the teepees are drafty at night. I would suggest a mat for the cots to help with warmth. Closing the smoke flaps is quite challenging and I'm sure I didn't get it as well as I could have. We tried out fishing but didn't have any bites. We didn't try out the showers but it was nice that was at least an option. Our stay was brief so I didn't get the full experience but the owner was friendly and accommodating.

Campground Response

thanks for staying with us hope you come back at a warmer time.

We love this place. We just pull up in our van and shed all the stress of the week.. it’s quiet , quaint, and peaceful. It’s our “staycation” spot now.. if it’s not the sleeping bear I’m not going!

Neat place overall. Owner is very helpful and takes care of needs very promptly! Loved being able to do a little fishing with our kids on the property. We stayed in the covered wagon. The only complaint I would have was it was not very clean. I completely understand it is more of camping atmosphere, however, the fan was covered in dust, the floors look like they had not been swept, the window ledges were covered in dust. It states online that the wagon has heat and air, there was only an air conditioner, there was not heat. I'm not sure if that only gets put inside in the winter, if that's the case it would be good to know up front. It was chilly in the morning so my kids got cold because we didn't pack enough blankets to prepare for that because we thought there was heat as well. There was also mold or mildew spots on the canvas. Otherwise, neat little experience for outdoor adventure type people that like to be off the beaten path.

Campground Response

Up front thank you for pointing out the issues you had and not just say "unkept" this way I can address any issue that needs attention, the floors are swept every time some one leaves but the floor was aged in the weather then glossed to look old, the heater is taken out in the summer just to keep it out of the way, its the middle of summer and I didn't realize someone would need it in august. the spots you saw on the canvas is sap from the trees not mold as I spray all the canvas areas to kill any mold before it begins but sadly the sap and even bird poop does not come out even with a pressure washer. other issues will be addressed. thanks

The place was great!! Very remote, but close enough to town to run in for necessities. Super quiet, and the owner Hank was accommodating and full of information. He didn't even get mad when we lost one of his golf discs in the pond! will definitely be back when we can. Only drawback was the weather :)

My family and our friend with her 4 girls recently had the pleasure of visiting Sleeping Bear Retreat, and we cannot express enough how much we enjoyed our short stay there. Upon our arrival, we were immediately captivated by the picturesque pond, where an abundance of frogs and tadpoles became a source of endless entertainment for the girls. The backdrop of our Tipis added to the enchanting atmosphere. Having the entire campground to ourselves was an unexpected luxury, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the tranquility and peacefulness of the natural surroundings. We cooked hotdogs and s'mores in the fire ring, accompanied by the chorus of fireflies, gnats (lots of them, lol), and the melodic songs of birds blending with the soothing background of frog croaks. The welcome sight of a deer briefly interrupted the serene ambiance. Despite the inclement weather that persisted throughout the night and into the following morning, we reluctantly departed, already looking forward to returning in the fall. Before leaving, we had the chance to say hello to Hank, the owner/operator of the campground. We shook hands and expressed our intention to leave a review as a token of appreciation for the wonderful place and time we all had. If you seek peace, relaxation, and a chance to enjoy nature, we highly recommend Sleeping Bear Retreat.

We had a great relaxing time at Sleeping Bear Retreat! We tent camped at #4. It was quiet and everything we needed (food & ice) was available for purchase . The bathhouse was clean and importantly, the water was hot for showers! We arrived by motorcycle and were able to park right by our tent. The view overlooking the pond was really nice, we would definitely stay again.

Very interesting property with plenty of activities and trails! Covered wagon was clean, ample lighting for night and ac/heat worked great. Also had space fan, plenty of electrical outlets if someone needed that. Bathrooms/showers were perfect for camping. Hot and cold water worked great. Can't wait to go back!

We had an amazing time here! The tipis are awesome. The grounds are extremely beautiful. Bathrooms are noce and clean, with hot showers. A very near rustic sink to use to wash hands and dishes. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Their pets also loved to come see us! 10/10 would recommend!
