  • Kansas City is one hour south of Pony Express. Famous for its BBQ and sports teams, the major metropolis is also home to various renowned museums (National WW1 Museum & Memorial, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, to name a few), exciting restaurants, brew pubs and nightlife at KC Live!, as well as many other points of interest.
  • Next in terms of size is the charming city of St.Joseph (St. Joe to the locals) which is 33 miles west of the park is best known as the origination point of our namesake, The Pony Express Route. This uncommonly interesting place boasts more than a dozen museums-- which include Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art and numerous history (Glore Psychiatric Museum, Pony Express National Museum and Black Archives Museum to name a few.) Other points of interest include Bushman Planetarium, Remington Nature Center, Mount Mora Cemetery, many architecturally significant buildings and, last but not least, the Walter Cronkite Memorial. Ask at the office for a current Visitor Guide which has two-for-one admission coupons. In addition, the annual events calendar is packed with concerts, festivals and the KC Chiefs Training Camp. So much to see and do in St. Joe!
  • "Quilt Town USA" aka Hamilton is only 26 miles from the park. Quilters from all over the country flock here to get their fabric fix. And never fear, one of the stores even features a Man Cave!
  • The Amish town of Jamesport is 37 miles away and is a charming place to eat and shop...numerous fine bakeries, restaurants, country stores that sell food in bulk, Amish-made furniture & smaller hand-crafted items, quilting stores and antique stores. You can find it all in Jamesport.

A great place, nice lots, amenities, friendly staff!

Great place to relax in the country. You have to try the pizza in the cafe too, one of the best I've had!

Deborah Halstead

PONY express went out of their way to accommodate our changing schedule and site needs. Site was partially sunny/shady and perfectly level. Loved the pizza and other Cafe foods. Dog park was large and clean. Laundry room was very nice and machines were reasonably priced. Would stay again!

Beautiful campground, great store, friendly people. A hidden gem to which I hope to return someday.

Beautifully manicured park. Showers were clean and with lots of hot water. The farm animals/petting zoo was endearing. We didn't have a chance to try the restaurant, but I'll bet it's good.

So it was only a 1 night stay, but such a nice campground! Well maintained and large off lease dog park. Since the weather was 100+ took advantage of the food delivery and did not cook! Not many campgrounds have such a service. Thank you!

Randy Vaughn

Beautiful country setting with 2 small lakes, farm animals that love being petted, restaurant serving breakfast and very good pizzas, dog park, several large paved pull thru sites. Highly Recommend

I’ve been camping at Pony Express for the last 3 summers. We have starting having our family get together there. There is so many things to do, swimming, farmers market, petting zoo, fishing, and great food.

Pony Express is one of the neatest and nicest reasonably priced parks around. They offer so many amenities, you can just stay on the property to keep the kids entertained and fed. I recommend it highly!

Amy Collings

A very nice camp area on some beautiful grounds, with a nice little petting zoo, restaurant and shop. Quiet and peaceful.

Jennifer Swaisgood

This campground was a breath of fresh air for us. It was out in the country, which meant no road noise. It had a fire ring for us to use (you’d be surprised at how many campgrounds don’t give you fire rings anymore), and the petting zoo was an added bonus for my kids. We loved it here. Wish we could’ve stayed longer.
