  • Kansas City is one hour south of Pony Express. Famous for its BBQ and sports teams, the major metropolis is also home to various renowned museums (National WW1 Museum & Memorial, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, to name a few), exciting restaurants, brew pubs and nightlife at KC Live!, as well as many other points of interest.
  • Next in terms of size is the charming city of St.Joseph (St. Joe to the locals) which is 33 miles west of the park is best known as the origination point of our namesake, The Pony Express Route. This uncommonly interesting place boasts more than a dozen museums-- which include Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art and numerous history (Glore Psychiatric Museum, Pony Express National Museum and Black Archives Museum to name a few.) Other points of interest include Bushman Planetarium, Remington Nature Center, Mount Mora Cemetery, many architecturally significant buildings and, last but not least, the Walter Cronkite Memorial. Ask at the office for a current Visitor Guide which has two-for-one admission coupons. In addition, the annual events calendar is packed with concerts, festivals and the KC Chiefs Training Camp. So much to see and do in St. Joe!
  • "Quilt Town USA" aka Hamilton is only 26 miles from the park. Quilters from all over the country flock here to get their fabric fix. And never fear, one of the stores even features a Man Cave!
  • The Amish town of Jamesport is 37 miles away and is a charming place to eat and shop...numerous fine bakeries, restaurants, country stores that sell food in bulk, Amish-made furniture & smaller hand-crafted items, quilting stores and antique stores. You can find it all in Jamesport.

Very nice campground. We stayed one night in a motorhome and set up a tent for the grandkids. Campground was easy to find. Camp site was not level, but we were able to level up easily. Grandkids enjoyed a walk around the campground, and one went for a dip in the swimming area of the lake.

If there were more than 5 stars to give, they'd have them. Beautiful, well-kept and just a great place. Friendly folks, good food and the most critter friendly place. Well mannered dogs can run free, and a place for them to swim. A fabulous place!

Very nice people and sites are well maintained… Animals are an awesome perk, it’s like staying on someone’s farm…

Really nice folks at the Pony Express RV Park. They let us use some of their tools to repair a loose ball on our tow hitch. We had a spacious pull-through right across from the new dog park. They make change in the store/café for the laundry machines. The restrooms and showers were clean, though I didn’t use the showers, so I can’t speak to water pressure/temp. The woman cooking in the café was very accommodating and friendly. I enjoyed walking on the wooded trails within the park with my dog and sitting on the swing down by the water. We had a threat of severe weather and they offered shelter for customers and their pets in the basement of the large, beautiful cabin on the property. We have family to visit in the area and hope to be able to stay here whenever we return.

This gem of a park is in a remote area away from noise, traffic and commotion but easily accessible from I35. Very friendly staff. We just did an overnight but would return and stay longer. The only negative is the picnic tables could use replacing.

Nice clean campground. Love the animals and the walking trails. We have stayed several times because it’s close to family but would stay even if that wasn’t the case.

Even though our stay here was short we found it to be the perfect layover. The host was very accommodating and the food at the cafe gave my wife a welcome rest. Would recommend to any traveler.

If anyone wants to make a reservation, DON'T let them put you at site C9! We had reservations this past weekend, and the site they assigned us (A6),was new and very nice overlooking the lake, but it didn't have sewer. We paid for full hookups. So when I called to let them know, they moved us to C9. We have a 22 ft class C. We couldn't put out our awning without it almost touching the trailer next to us. And it's at the bottom of the hill, so with the rain, it was very muddy. Hardly any area to put our chairs. Overall the park is nice, except for some sites being too close together.

We stayed for 3 nights. Very nice park. Close to Missouri Star Quilts. Loved walking around trails. We were in a 44' 5th wheel. Had to share a table and fire pit.

Great place to stay only problem I have is the sewer system was higher than camper so it made it a challenge for a good flow.
