I had an absolutely wonderful stay at High Plains. Traveling in December from NY to CO on I-70 it’s hard to find campgrounds open, but they are! I arrived during a blizzard, as they’d closed I-70 in front of me. I had a reservation thankfully which I was easily able to extend another night while we waited out the storm. The staff was GREAT, and the cafe served good hot food on a cold night! Set on the edge of the High Plains it was truly beautiful. I’ll be back!

Campground Response

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay, Suzanne! Yeh, that I-70 can be a bear in the winter but we're happy to be there for weary travelers or when it's just a bit too dangerous to drive. We'd love to have you visit again. Enjoy Colorado!

Very clean campground. Bathrooms were huge and extremely clean!! The hostesses, Corey and Richard, were sooo friendly and helpful. We'll stay there again if we ever pass by there.

Campground Response

Thanks, Russ! As owners, it is our top priorities to be amiable and accommodating to our guests. Course, it's not that hard - it's in our nature and our guests are outgoing as well. The credit of our clean bathrooms goes to one of our staff, Mona. That's ALL her!!! Good job, Mona!!! Jay is our new park manager, and he is equally friendly and accommodating! Safe travels! Hope to see you again!

The sites are very roomy, no shade. Right near highway, so you do get some noise. Owners are very nice and helpful when you need something. They are always trying to improve things in the park. They have a variety of pizzas and other food. Their pizza is really good. They have a small store with cute nick nacks. A Mexican restaurant next door along with a gas station across the road. Only 4 miles to the town of Oakley, KS. Great museums in town. Would stay again in the future. Thank you Cory, Richard and Jay. Great people. 👍

Campground Response

Thanks, Mark! We really enjoyed our visits with you. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay and visit to Oakley. What a neat little town and fantastic people! I really enjoyed the Buffalo Bill and Fick Fossil museums too. Enjoy your travels this winter and circle back around to see us!

Great campground. Very friendly staff. Sites are close but we were only stopping overnight. Facilities included everything we needed. After filling our water tank the water had to be shut off due to the temp dropping to freezing. Would stay here again.

Campground Response

Thanks, Richard. One of our top priorities is friendliness and since we're the only campground along I-70 that can stay open in the winter because of our water hydrants, we have to protect them. I'm surprised about your comment that the sites are close, though. The average measurement between pedestals is 36 feet! That doesn't seem close to me. Course I've been to San Francisco...now those sites are close!!! LOLOL! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Safe travels and come see us again!

Very convenient for a stop while traveling and the staff bend over backwards to assist.

Campground Response

Glad to help, Joel! Enjoy your travels and come back to see us soon!

KELCEY WEBB

Lots of stickers, lots of noisy semi s

Campground Response

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay Kelcey. Unfortunately (like many RV parks near off ramps in rural areas), the police cannot ticket the truck drivers for using their jake break because there is no statue against it. We can only call and complain so much, but it would help if every guest were to call the county sheriff and complain...it would make more of an impact. As for the "stickers", we are actively working on killing the plant and collecting the goat heads and burrs but as you can imagine it's a labor-intensive, time-consuming process. It'll get better in the spring when they soften and hopefully most will be gone by then. All that said, I would've hoped our beaming personality and cafe would've earned us more than one star...LOL! Thanks for staying and we hope to see you again.

We stayed two nights both of which we experienced unexpected cold snap. We did find and hosts made sure water was protected. There were a lot of stickers in the grass. Don’t think I would stay here in summer and have to deal with that. Some noise from interstate that is close by.

Campground Response

Hi Linda. We are actively working on the goat heads and burrs but to let you and others know, it's actually worse right now because it's not summer. It seems since fall and the plants are going dormant, the burrs and goat heads are drying and falling off the plants, whereas in the summer they are growing and green making about half of them soft and pliable or essentially less annoying. So, in summer they actually not as offensive. That said, we are actively killing the plant without hurting the environment. Thank you for staying with us. I encourage you to stop again someday...even this summer.

We love camping here. It's location is perfect for a trip out west and this campground has everything you need for any type of set up including tents. The new owners are wonderful.

Campground Response

Thanks, Seth! We are conveniently located for an enjoyable stop...or extended stay so you have time to see all the tourist sites around the area. Looking forward to your next visit. Safe travels!

Clean, nice campground. Easy on and off the highway. Second time staying here and will be back again.

Campground Response

Glad to hear that, Gary. We look forward to your next visit! Have a great trip!

The people are very nice and advised me wisely on the right site for us. The new owners are working hard to improve the place but do beware of the stickers, especially if you have a dog. They have a pizza place that looked and smelled great but we opted for the Mexican food right next door (easy to walk to). It was also good. There is a truck stop across the street so, if "Jake brakes" keep you awake, it might not be the place for you. That didn't bother us and, if you have your heat or AC on, you probably wouldn't hear them. Overall, a nice spot, especially for an overnight and I wish the new owners luck!

Campground Response

Thank you for the well-wishes, Traci! We're glad you enjoyed the Mexican restaurant - it's a family operation and those boys have put a lot of work into creating a really neat space to eat. We wish them the best! Sorry about the jake breaks. They're not supposed to use them, but they still do. They don't seem to bother me once I fall asleep though. Enjoy you trip!

Easy entry level long and wide spaces...pull throughs and ample space... a little road noise but we turned on our fan for white noise Owners very engaged and helpful...Lots of grass for dogs...LOTS of critters for the dogs to sniff.. Raining hard night we stayed, but owner came to help jump our tow vehicle as we had gone too long without starting it ..VERY KIND..

Campground Response

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, Lilliana. It was our pleasure to help you get your Jeep started again. Enjoy the rest of your travels!

The owners are the most hospitable people!! Thanks so much for the opportunity to enjoy Kansas and the area around your campground! Your recommendation of local attractions was more than helpful! The bathrooms/showerhouse, and laundryroom are extremely clean! We will be back next time!

Campground Response

Thank you, Brian! I'm so pleased you had a nice stay at our campground. Kudos to Mona on her great job keeping our bathrooms, showers, laundry, and Cafe clean. We look forward to your next visit. Drive safely and enjoy your travels!

Very average campground. Sites are generally level and hook-ups worked. I your travel requires a stop in western Kansas, this is the only option. Recommend 1 night only as there's nothing else to see/do; only 1 fuel station and other food etc. services very limited. We stopped here a few years ago and the office personnel were RUDE. This time check-in experience was OK.

Campground Response

I'm sorry you didn't have a nicer experience and that your check in was just "ok". We strive to make sure every guest feels welcomed and to let them know about all the services and things to do nearby if interested. There certainly are a lot of pamphlets right next to our front door to peruse for "things to do". As for food options, there is pizza at the campground that is getting rave reviews along with a Mexican restaurant next door and awesome family dining in the town of Oakley just 5 miles away. Additionally, many guests enjoy visiting the Buffalo Bill Historical Center and Fick Fossil Museum in Oakley as well as Monument Rocks, Little Jerusalem, and Keystone Gallery about 30 minutes away. Of course, we're always open to conversation about your stay as it is our goal to have every camper leave happy on the road to their next adventure. I would love to chat with you, so I may glean a little better understanding about the less than stellar stay you had at our park. You're welcome to call the office at 785-672-3538 or call my cell phone directly at 907-230-6968. Thank you for your feedback. Safe travels.

Bathrooms were spotless. Staff very friendly and accommodating! If in the area we would definitely go back. We camped for three weeks as we crossed the country. This was our favorite campground.

Campground Response

Wow! Your favorite! I am very happy to hear that, Nancy, and even more pleased that you enjoyed your stay!!! Mona is awesome at taking care of our janitorial needs, so all the credit goes to her on our "spotless" bathrooms! Please do visit us again if you're traveling in the area. Take care!

Cannot recommend High Plains Camping enough. We arrived late at night, and they were incredibly accommodating to us even though I had mistakenly put in the wrong description for our setup. We got our space moved with no fuss at all. The campground was clean and well maintained, as were all of the facilities. We couldn't find a single spot in the place that would have made for an uncomfortable stay. The ladies in the office were wonderfully helpful with great suggestions on what to do in the area based off of our interests. I highly recommend going in and asking them for a few tips and must-see locations! We really wnjoyed our stay and will absolutely be making a trip here in the future for an extended stay! Thanks so much!

Campground Response

Thanks Tyler! You and your wife are very nice people too! And that boxer! What a cutie pie and well-mannered for a pup! Again, Happy Anniversary! I expect you two will be together for a very long time. We look forward to another visit. Until then, enjoy life, be kind, and give hugs!

I love this hidden gem of our Northwest Kansas Community, they helped and i do not feel like a guest, we are family. I am staying here long term for now and this place is exceptionally clean, quiet and i live here alone but always feel safe and they keep great security on this camp ground and even watch over our homes when we are not home or if something odd at night they come check on you. I never hear neighbors. Thank you and God Bless the new owners they are making a difference for us and our community.

Campground Response

I'm so glad you feel comfortable here, Gary. It is important that we stick together and help each other. I too feel like we're family with our guests...long-term and short-term. Don't be stranger, tho, come visit us in the office or have dinner with us in the cafe now and again. Have a great day!
