Gateway National Recreation Area

Overview

The Gateway National Recreation Area is located in the beautiful town of New Jersey and is a great spot for a fun and relaxing outdoor escape. Looking for wide open natural spaces and plenty of trees to camp among? This is the perfect spot! Campers can enjoy great sites at 3 different Gateway Parks: Floyd Bennett Field, Fort Wadsworth and Sandy Hook, but please note that sites are primitive tent sites and only the Staten Isle Park has (cold) showers. Be sure to bring everything you'll need for a relaxing and distraction-free stay!

Attractions

Just beyond the park are a number of local attractions, such as the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, Plumb Beach, Canarsie Pier, Fort Tilden, Breezy Point, Jacob Riis Park and Frank Charles Park. And of course, there's tons of great restaurants and pubs nearby to enjoy local flavors in between canoeing, biking, nature walking of picnicking fun.
