This was a great camp for van camping. My stay in early October meant few campers, actually I was the only van there. Great wilderness feel, warm , clean well lit bathrooms. I would highly recommend.

Good full hookup Utilities, all sites are pull through, our site was very level, affordable coin laundry, nice showers. Other campers were quiet. My main complaint is that the landscaping was the plainest of any campground that I have been at in 55 years of camping. Nothing but gravel and dirt. No bushes, no grass, no trees.

This has the potential to be a very nice site. As I am lead to belive the site is only 2 years and under development. Overall a good safe place to land for an overniter or somewhat longer. A little on the pricey side for it's state of development.

So before anything this is newer park your expectations should start there. When we arrived there were a group of guys working on a slab of concrete so improvements are being made. Not much greenery at the park itself, but many saplings around and the staff keeps the grounds clean. I doesn't have all the bells and whistles yet, but tons of potential. They are close to a food market, gas stations, a pharmacy, restaurants, so many other things too and of course Marquettes downtown and beaches. The way I would describe this park its a more like "I need a place to park so I can explore" than "I need a place to park, relax and have everything there for me". I guess the way you see it depends on what your plans are while there. Ours were to be out as much as we could. Believe me you can spend all day running around and you wont see all that is in the area. All of the spaces are pull thru, they are close but not that bad, the water hook up on our site was kind of awkward but we figure it out. The staff is very friendly and laid back. Most of who we saw working around were young pleople. I saw two of them helping an elderly gentleman with his rig, very sweet gesture. The bathrooms and showers were excellent loved how spacious and clean they were. They also have a laundry room, didn't had to use it but is nice to have one so accessible. I do appreciate those features more than most, as a person traveling with and individual with disabilities. My only complaint would be the noise coming from my neighbors 2 or 3 spaces down that had loud music until 2 am. But what can you do jerks will jerks anywhere they go. To the staff, keep up the good work, we will be back!

The site was of a good width and fairly level. Water was good quality and electric and sewer well placed and easy. The cement block fire pits were a bit problematic, placed too close to the drive, becoming a hazard for longer rigs maneuvering into or out of the site. Also, your handling of checking in was informal enough that you had to knock on our door to ask who we were three days into our stay. You shouldn't have to do that. A little more formality, such as vehicle hanging tags would be appropriate. We can't comment on bath facilities, as we didn't utilize them.

Felt like we were in the dessert. No trees no privacy just a big open space. Golf course is right beside the park and has beautiful greenery. We were very surprised when we turned into the Campsite. Shower and bathroom could have been cleaned more frequently. Same hair on bench in shower stall for 3 days. Had to make our own makeshift fire pit with bricks. On a positive note had blueberries and raspberries around the property we also met some wonderful people!!!

Great tent camping once I was told we could camp in the lower area near the treeline. Thank you. I would recommend if in the area again. Unfortunately I lost the center cap on my wheel and when I turned around to grab it, it was already picked up. Oh well

At first glance, I was prepared to try to find another campground. The place did not give a good first impression, very run-down looking and check-in was non-existent. Nobody was in the office, I had an email with my site# on it, but someone was already set up there. I called the number on the board and I was told I could just pick a site, they weren't really reserved. We disconnected and drove around to find a site. They are all grass/gravel and some are definitely more grass than gravel. The sites are about as level as you can get with grass/gravel, so that wasn't a problem. There are a few picnic tables, but certainly not one at each site, and the fire rings are just cinder blocks places in a rough circle. Most of them have grass growing out of them. We found a site in the back and quickly got set up. If you are looking for a no-frills place to park, you'll love this campground. It's super quiet, no trees to obstruct Starlink, and very laid back. First impressions weren't great, but the bathrooms are clean and there is a great trail to walk, ride, take your dog, just watch out for the side-by-sides. I think most people probably come here to just park and then go off with their outdoor toys to play on the trails all day. Then come back to sleep, which is why it's so quiet. Keep an eye out for the red light poles and I would suggest not parking under them, they are SUPER bright at night. We were hoping to see the perseids meteor shower, but those lights drowned out just about everything. We were able to see the Milky Way very clearly and saw a few shooting stars, but it would have been so much better without those lights. I recognize lights are necessary for safety, but wow those are bright. So in all, it's a fine place to park. I never felt unsafe, but it is a bit rustic if you're used to KOAs. There is a golf course right around the corner that looked very nice, but we didn't get a chance to play. I don't really think it was worth the price, but there really aren't too many options around.

Ok if you like being packed in a field. The sights are small and crammed together. They are full hookup. No picnic tables and the fire pits are just some cinder blocks. Not really sure how you could have a fire if the campground was full because the other campers would be so close. The bathroom was ok but it was out of or almost out of toilet paper(at half full). Zero trees in the campground and nothing of any size around it.

The Good: Close(15 min) to Marquette. If you golf there is a nice course next door. If you ATV there are trails. It's quiet. It's dark for viewing stars. The Bad: There is no one ever in the office. The grandpa is there but says he's turned it over to the grandkids. I called the number but no one answered. It's find you own site. Sites are long but narrow. There was only 2 bars of 4G cell service(AT&T). There is no wifi. The sewer connections are higher than your tanks(for my coach, your milage my vary). There was trash everywhere in the tent area. Looked like maybe a homeless family. The showers aren't very clean. There's potential but it will take some effort. Give me a shout when you get GOOD wifi and I'll come back and give it another try. Good luck.

A picnic table would have been nice. The bathrooms and showers were not very clean and ran out of toilet paper for quite a while.

Quiet campground with easy access for our big rig needing a full hookup and a pull through. Showers hot but need cleaning attention (lots of black mildew). Nice central location to then use our tow car to explore along the lake both east and west, as well as in Marquette, from our base camp.

Chocolay River was perfect for our stay in the Marquette area. It is a rustic site with no power/water hook up on site, however there is a bathroom/shower house available for all those staying. For being the holiday weekend (4th of July) the space was not that filled, so it was quiet during our stay. Will keep this place in mind again for next time we're in the area.

We had a wonderful time at Chocolay River. It felt like we were staying out in the middle of the woods but yet so close to everything. It was convenient to downtown Marquette and the Pictured Rocks. The older man at the office was such a nice gentleman and very friendly. We had FHU and 50amp, we checked out the bathhouses and they were very clean. I highly recommend staying here.

When we arrived we were met my a kind elderly gentleman who apologized about the state of the campgrounds. He told us that his grandsons were more interested in chasing women than helping at the campgrounds. The campgrounds were unkept when we arrived. I paid for a site confirmation, but it was in use. Told to just pick a spot. When we pulled through all the sites had weeds growing up clear through the site that were knee high. No picnic table. We decided not to even get out of the truck. We were so disappointed after a long day of driving to get there. We moved on. It would be nice if we could get a refund. It was not at all how it was pictured.
