We are descended from pre-Colonial and Revolutionary War lineage, Edmund Chancey, a descendant of Old Will Chance of Maryland, from the 1650s. These Georgia lands have been owned successively since the 1820 Georgia Land Lottery. Four years ago, we began to plot a strategy to reclaim this land from kudzu, wild grapevines, rattlesnakes, coyotes, fire ants, and other encroaching snakes-in-the-grass. While previously there were two homesites on the property, no one had lived here for almost 100 years.
