Houston is the most populated city in Texas and is located toward the southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and enjoys a humid, subtropical climate. The city is home to representatives from almost every culture in the world, and is a melting pot that rivals even New York in its diversity. Popular Attractions

The Theater District is a 17-block area in the center of downtown Houston that is home to the Bayou Place entertainment complex, restaurants, movies, plazas, and parks. Bayou Place is a large multilevel building containing full-service restaurants, bars, live music, billiards, and Sundance Cinema, and the Bayou Music Center stages live concerts, stage plays, and stand-up comedy. Most famous regional, national and even international artists have performed in Houston at some point during their careers, which makes the city a hub for culture, art and creativity. 

 

Many RVers enter the deep urban area for the Houston Space Center, which is the official visitors' center of NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. The center has a number of interactive exhibits including moon rocks, a shuttle simulator, and presentations about the history of NASA's manned space flight program. For world-class shopping, travelers can enjoy spots like the Galleria (Texas's largest shopping mall, located in the Uptown District), Old Market Square, the Downtown Aquarium and the Sam Houston Race Park. Another hugely noteworthy site is the city's Chinatown and the Mahatma Gandhi Districts. Both areas offer a picturesque view of Houston's multicultural makeup, with excellent restaurants, bakeries, traditional-clothing boutiques, and specialty shops in both areas.

 

Of the 10 most populous U.S. cities, Houston has the most total area of parks and green space clocking in at 56,405 acres, and the city also has over 200 additional green spaces, including the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. The Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark is a public skatepark owned and operated by the city of Houston, and is one of the largest skateparks in Texas, and the Wet'n'Wild SplashTown is a water park located north of Houston. Some notable parks include the Hermann Park, Terry Hershey Park, Lake Houston Park, Memorial Park, Tranquility Park, Sesquicentennial Park, Discovery Green and the Sam Houston Park. Within Hermann Park are the Houston Zoo and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Sam Houston Park is especially popular because it contains restored and reconstructed homes which were originally built between 1823 and 1905. Many locals take advantage of these greens paces daily to enjoy excellent biking, hiking, group play, sunset viewing and stargazing. 

 

On an art front, Houston is a powerhouse of creativity, and home to dozens of galleries and murals. There are both annual and frequent happenings, and some of the best yearly events include: Texas Lunar New Year Houston, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest and the Bayou City Art Festival. There's also the Art Car Parade, Houston Dragon Boat Festival, Pasadena Strawberry Festival and the Caribbean Heritage Month Festival. A number of ongoing events occur each month, including the Summer Music Festival, Summer Russian Bazaar, Fulshear Farmers' Market, and Kemah Father's Day Market and Strolling Saturdays with excellent live musicians walking the streets and bringing great music to pedestrians and businesses.

For food, there's no place in Texas quite like Houston. Travelers can also enjoy the Russian Cultural Center, the Health Museum and the Heritage Society. For the strictly art-based museums and galleries, the city benefits from a revolving composition of work, with new, relevant exhibits being presented periodically.  

  

Sports

Houston has sports teams for every major professional league except the National Hockey League, and as a result, there's plenty of locations and stadiums for enjoying local sports games. The Minute Maid Park (home of the Astros) and Toyota Center (home of the Rockets), are located in downtown Houston, and the city is home to the NFL's first retractable-roof stadium with natural grass, NRG Stadium (home of the Texans). The city has hosts several major professional and college sporting events, including the annual Houston Open golf tournament, the annual Houston College Classic baseball tournament every February and the Texas Bowl in December. And for sports racing fans, the Grand Prix of Houston, an annual auto race on the IndyCar Series circuit is held on a 1.7-mile temporary street circuit in Reliant Park.
