Today I wrote into a campground in Maine inquirering about availability. FYI it is called Hid'n Pines . In the form they ask how many people and if you are family, friends, couple, etc. I am going on vacation with my friend and filed in the form accordingly. This was there response to me. Thank you for your interest in camping with us. Unfortunately, we do not take reservations for groups and friends. We are a family campground, and accept reservations exclusively from families or couples, and have a very strict quiet hours policy. We would like to suggest another campground that does accept reservations for groups and/or friends: Old Orchard Beach Campground, (207) 934-4477. Thank you, Jenny And this was my response to them. Thank you for your quick response! I can not however accept your refusal of service based on such a discriminatory reason. As I have stated in my request, we are 2 friends. Two single ladies of 37 and 47 years of age who simply want to go on vacation. I understand and accept your "strict quiet hours policy". However I can't accept being turned away simply because I am single and without children as this would not only be illegal but also highly nonsensical. If I send in my request as being two ladies in a relationship, would that be tolerable to you or is this also considered unacceptable to you? They then proceeded to ask for my phone number in order to discuss this. I answered I preferred writen communication at this point. This was their final response. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, but we have to stand behind our policies.
